Military Veterans & Family Connection Lounge

A Space for Healing and Growth

The Military Veterans & Family Connection Lounge serves as a central hub for connection, engagement, wellness, and support throughout New York State's Joseph P. Dwyer Peer Support Project network. Designed for Veterans, service members, military families, caregivers, and survivors, the Connection Lounge highlights opportunities to connect with others, participate in local and virtual activities, access educational resources, and discover programs that strengthen overall well-being and community involvement.

Through Dwyer Programs across New York State, individuals can participate in a wide variety of free activities and opportunities, including equine programs, yoga, walking groups, writing groups, Veteran luncheons, peer support gatherings, educational workshops, recreational outings, and community events. The Connection Lounge also features access to the Dwyer Virtual Community, scholarship opportunities, and other resources designed to reduce isolation, foster meaningful connections, and support personal growth.

Whether you are looking to build new relationships, improve your well-being, explore local activities, or simply connect with others who understand the military experience, the Connection Lounge is here to help. Most opportunities highlighted throughout the Dwyer network are offered at no cost, ensuring that members of New York's military-connected community can access the support, connection, and resources they deserve.

Dwyer Virtual Community

Powered by

The Dwyer Virtual Community is a new statewide virtual space designed to bring military personnel, veterans, families, and caregivers together beyond county boundaries. While Dwyer Programs continue to provide local opportunities for connection and engagement, the Dwyer Virtual Community expands those opportunities through virtual groups, discussions, activities, information sessions, and shared experiences that can be accessed from anywhere in New York State.

Whether you are looking to connect with others who understand your experiences, participate in a county-based group, join a statewide discussion, explore resources, or simply stay engaged with the military and veteran community, the Dwyer Virtual Community provides a welcoming and accessible place to do so.

The community is free to join and continues the Dwyer tradition of fostering connection, reducing isolation, and strengthening support for military personnel, veterans, families, and caregivers.

The Dwyer Coalition Scholarship Program supports Veterans, service members, military spouses, dependents, caregivers, and survivors across New York State who are pursuing higher education, vocational training, certification programs, apprenticeships, or workforce development opportunities. The program was established to recognize leadership, service, resilience, and community engagement while helping reduce barriers to educational and professional advancement.

Beginning in 2027, the Coalition plans to award two annual scholarships of $1,500 each, with applications opening January 1, closing April 1, and recipients announced in May. Preference is given to individuals who have participated in, volunteered with, or supported a local Joseph P. Dwyer Peer Support Program. Scholarship awards and funding levels may be adjusted based on available funding and community support.
